The central waste disposal site completes the “Haldenpark” (dump park) of the green corridor D along the river Emscher and the Rhine-Herne-Canal. The new building integrates all op-erational units in one edifice. It projects into the dump like the artificial base of the embank-ment, allowing for technical and functional logistics. Thus it merges into the landscape.
The small weighing house completes the central waste deposit. As a steel box under an oval concrete roof it visibly stands out against the design of the other buildings. It is circled by a band-like steel frame with a tin casing varnished in orange. In contrast to this, the longitudinal sides are made of sound insulated glass. The rest room and the storeroom are concealed behind closed elements.
