The square building is organized around a terraced courtyard and via a glazed bridge on the second floor connected to the Biologicum, which has also been designed by Gerber Architekten. A surrounding coloured precast concrete frame encases the three upper storeys. These regular institute levels are arranged circularly around the courtyard with the offices oriented towards the patio and the laboratories oriented outwards. The eastern vertical circulation axis however opens up to the courtyard with a glass façade. The patio itself is designed as a green park with wooden terraces and seats, inviting the scientists to communication and an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.
