Located in the immediate vicinity of Dortmund’s city centre, East Gate stands for living close to the city centre with the advantages of a green, traffic-calmed inner courtyard. The area between the former East Goods Station and a main access road to Dortmund city centre, which was previously used as an industrial estate, is being transformed into a residential quarter close to the city centre. The East Gate residential ensemble combines different residential concepts: 2 five to six-storey building blocks are grouped along Hamburger Strasse with a total of 109 residential units, which act as noise protection for the buildings behind them. The flats have terraces and balconies facing the quiet inner courtyard with seating and play areas. On the opposite side of the inner courtyard, 9 townhouses or maisonettes are designed as four-storey structures, which, with their staggered heights, form a transition to the private homes behind them. In addition to the various housing options, the residential ensemble includes a daycare centre with an outdoor area as well as offices and a fitness studio. An underground car park connects the entire neighbourhood and public transport services are within walking distance. All buildings will be equipped with PV modules on the flat roofs.
