In preparation for a refurbishment project, the new operating theatre building is to be constructed with the associated ancillary room programme and its own technical and ventilation centre. The highly installed interim operating theatre building will provide Hannover Medical School with space for operating theatres, induction and recovery rooms, changing rooms, offices and other ancillary rooms, which will ensure optimised care within the framework of a building use planned for three decades. This measure will make it possible to refurbish the central operating theatre department and avoid major downtimes. The necessary work processes and their logistics essentially determine the layout of the department. The main functions of the interim operating theatre department are planned for level H0. A total of 6 operating theatres are planned in a row next to each other, one of which is a septic operating theatre with its own small sluice. The upstream induction zone consists of four individual rooms, flanked by module and sterile goods storage areas. It can be reached quickly from the central patient sluice. The recovery room is located in the extension of operating theatre 1, where post-operative patients leave the operating theatre through the access airlock. The operating theatres face the inner courtyard and therefore receive daylight. The ancillary functions, changing rooms, staff rooms and staff airlocks are located on base level S0. All technical supply rooms are also planned here (with the exception of the ventilation technology). The staff changing rooms and airlocks on level S0, which are accessed from the main corridor, already define access to the sterile operating theatre area. The meeting and staff room provided in the clean area allows staff to hold concentrated meetings and take breaks from ongoing operating theatre operations without having to repeatedly enter and exit the area. A staircase serves as a direct connection to the operating theatre area on level H0, which forms the heart of the interim operating theatre facility. With its silvery metal façade, the new operating theatre building forms a significant final accent at the western end of the main corridor.
