NCT National Centre for Tumour Diseases UK Essen

A new site of the National Centre for Tumour Diseases is being established at the University Hospital in Essen. As a research centre of excellence, clinical-translational cancer research in Germany will be sustainably developed from there in future together with the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ). The new building combines cancer research and patient care under one roof, which will improve both the treatment results and the quality of life of cancer patients.
The six-storey building is designed with a perforated façade made of aluminium composite panels. Sliding louvres in contrasting colours break up the uniform façade grid. The glazed ground floor houses the spacious and transparent entrance and access area with reception, waiting area and cafeteria. A training area for patients as well as seminar and meeting rooms are also located here. The following floors house the offices of the Cancer Data Centre, the virtual oncology department and laboratory and office areas. This structure enables an overarching research approach in which doctors and scientists work together on customised diagnostics.
