The US-Architecture portal Architizer gives awards to the best buildings in the world. Five projects have been selected in each of over 80 categories which are available for online-voting now. The King Fahad National Library has been nominated in the “Architecture + Materials” category. Anybody with an Architizer-, Facebook-, LinkedIn or Google Plus Account can vote until the 3rd April:
Hamburg’s Mayor Olaf Scholz, the State Minister of Science and Research, Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt and the President of the University of Applied Sciences (HAW) Hamburg, Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Otten will open the Hamburg Art and Media Campus in Finkenau on 16th March. The new building, designed by Gerber Architekten, houses a library and media centre with student work spaces, a new event hall, a cafeteria, a canteen as well as computer workstations and laboratories for use by students of the HAW Hamburg. The new building completes the media campus and includes all the functions which a contemporary campus needs. The new accommodation includes: a recording studio, a virtual studio, a video-laboratory, a laboratory for time-related media and a design interaction laboratory for the DMI department, a specialised design, media and Information library (HIBS) and a canteen and café for the Studierendenwerk Hamburg.
The 26th edition of the world’s leading property market will be held from 10th to 13th March in the Palais des Festivals, Cannes. For the second time, Gerber Architekten will be showcased at the German Pavilion which is co-funded by the German federal administration. The focus is on projects in the kingdom of Saudi-Arabia like the Olaya Metro Station, which is currently under construction. The King Fahad National Library has been nominated for the MIPIM Award.

The German Architecture Yearbook is published by the DAM and presents the best current buildings in Germany. For the 2014/15 edition, three international projects have been commended which have been completed by German architects and which demonstrate the export value of architecture in an exceptional way. The King Fahad National Library was chosen as a communicative ambassador of change and was honoured at the prestigious award ceremony. All the projects can be viewed until 12th of April at the exhibition on the 3rd floor of the DAM in Frankfurt.view Project
Award ceremony „Auszeichnung guter Bauten“ has taken place in Hamburg
At the award ceremony on 29th January 2015 in the Empire Riverside Hotel, Hamburg, Gerber Architekten were awarded with three prizes. The IBA-Project “Head-End Buildings, Quarter of Nations, Wilhelmsburg” received a first prize for “Auszeichnung guter Bauten” given by the BDA Hamburg and a second prize for the public choice award given by the Hamburger Abendblatt. The project has already obtained the German Prize for Urban Planning and the Carl-Friedrich-Fischer Award for humane living.
Another recently completed project in Hamburg by Gerber Architekten – the Finkenau art and media campus – received a commendation from the Hamburg BDA.
IC-Building of Ruhr-University Bochum receives “Auszeichnung guter Bauten – 2014” from the BDA
The IC-Building of the Ruhr-University Bochum “is entirely innovative and serves as a model example for handling of existing buildings”. The project by Gerber Architekten and HOCHTIEF Buildings was presented with the BDA prize for the Bochum, Hattingen, Herne and Witten area on 23th January 2015 at the award ceremony and exhibition opening in the Bochum Museum.
The positive public perception of the building also allowed the building to win the public choice award which was given this year for the first time.
Gerber Architekten and Bollinger + Grohmann receive award
The engineering prize of the German Steel Construction awarded for the second time by bauforumstahl in collaboration with their conceptual partner the German Federal Chamber of Engineers covers a wide range of engineering services. The King Fahad National Library impressed the jury with an integral solution which combines solar protection, architecture and the adoption of local forms in a modern, hi-tech construction.
The award ceremony will take place at the “Messe BAU 2015” in Munich, on 20th January 2015, 4:30 p.m. at the bauforumstahl stand. The projects will be displayed at the touring exhibition of the Best Steel Fabrications competition 2014/15, which will be on show principally at universities.view Project
