Laboratory building Thünen Institute

The landscape concept for the planning envisages carefully integrating the new building into the green panorama of the restored garden landscape. The new laboratory building planned in the listed ensemble of the Thünen Institute serves to update scientific findings in the field of forest genetics and blends harmoniously into its historical surroundings. Our guiding principle of sustainable architecture in connection with nature and landscape is expressed in this project. The flat design of the new building endeavours to position itself between the nursery and the historic villa without disturbing the overall picture. This restrained design prioritises the natural ambience of the surroundings and ensures a balanced integration of the new building.

During the renovation of the villa, contemporary adaptations will be made to make it suitable for modern needs. Barrier-free accessibility and the careful restoration of the façade are also being focussed on in order to preserve the authentic appearance.

In addition, we are paying particular attention to ecological aspects in the design of the new building and the greenhouse. By integrating green roofs and utilising renewable energy sources, we are making a contribution to sustainability.
