A diverse mix of uses, flexible flat layouts and attractively designed outdoor areas: The new entrance to the neighbourhood in the north of Frankfurt creates a link between private living space and public use in the form of a neighbourhood meeting place. In front of the elongated, six-storey building is a large, multifunctional square that allows residents from the neighbourhood to participate.
The entire ground floor and parts of the first floor serve as a public neighbourhood meeting place with areas for sports, learning, reading, music, crafts, a café and a bicycle repair shop. The high proportion of glass in the façade makes this offer visible to the outside and enables low-threshold participation. The upper floors 2 to 5 are intended to offer the most diverse, barrier-free housing possible, which is accessed via a central staircase and arcades. The offer ranges from 1-room flats to flats for couples, family flats and shared flats with 3 to 4 rooms to clusters for senior living with 5 rooms.
The façade is designed to have good climate compatibility. This is achieved by means of a timber construction, which is vertically divided into different colours, partially greened and protected from the weather by the arcades in front. This small-scale façade design breaks up the large scale and anonymity of the surrounding residential buildings and welcomes people with its colourful appearance. External staircases, which are visible from afar and shape the character of the building, encourage interaction between residents on different floors and make the pergola usable as a meeting space in addition to its pure access function. The roof area is accessible and is used as a greenhouse for urban gardening, sports facilities and seating areas for relaxed summer nights.
