University of Applied Sciences, Würzburg-Schweinfurt

Landscape

The university is arranged as a widely visible focal point on the hills of the Main valley and opens up to the spacious landscape with large windows. In accordance with the gradation of the slope, the two L-shaped buildings are staggered at different heights and form several vantage points into the surrounding Main landscape: through the elevation of the southern building angle, the view from the central inner courtyard glides over the high base into the expanse of the landscape. The path, which ends in diagonally staggered staircases on the road and valley sides and crosses this square, also connects the university with the surrounding landscape. The wide staircase leading into the valley basin is covered with vegetation and illustrates the idea of the interpenetration of architecture and landscape.
