On April 12th and 13th there is the 14th conference of the “Laborrunde” in Berlin. Two whole days long there will discussions and information about different topics dealing with theory and practice of the laboratory building. Each year experts from different subject areas are invited to talk about the latest findings, experiences as well as the current trend in the area of laboratory building. Also Gerber Architects take part in this years Laborrunde. Project direct at Gerber Architects and expert in the field of research and laboratory building Michael Halbeisen will hold a presentation on: Thought patterns in a realistic way on April 12th at 12:00 noon.

The completion for the renovation and expansion of the Staatlichen Kunsthalle in Karlsruhe is finished: Gerber Architects received recognition for the their design in the split competition. Centrepiece of the design is a clear, minimised archetypal new building, which newly defines the existing patio with a light room and airspace joint, thus offering the possibility to use the space as a light, clear and central room of encounter. All competition works are on display from 17th March to 27th May 2018 during the opening times of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe.

The housing estate at Bremer Straße in Hamburg-Harburg shall be expanded with a characteristic ensemble of modern residential buildings and at the same time upgrade the entance area of the Harburg city. The result of the survey report is settled and Gerber Architects are pleased about the award in this split competition. The design proposes to expand the estate by three new modules with unified form and materiality, which adapt exact and coherent to the existing protected building ensembles form the 1920’s. The homogeneous roof landscape with roofs with differing slopes conveys between the varying numbers of storeys of the existing buildings and suggests the viewer a series of many individual town houses.

After only eight months building time the extension of the St. Barbara Hospital in Gladbeck will open today. To increase the bed capacity, a new three storey cross building now connects the north with the south wing of the existing building and provides short connections and optimal availability for all rooms. Apart from a disciplinary admission unit, 72 new inpatient beds are created as well as a new neurological unit and internal medicine. With this extension the builder Katholischen Kliniken Emscher Lippe GmbH together with the company group St. Augustinus Gelsenkirchen GmbH meet their mutual goal to offer an excellent clinical care in Gelsenkirchen, Gladbeck and Bottrop. Thanks to the completey prefabricated modules including preinstalled bathrooms the building time was enormously shortened and a high quality standard was achieved. Moving in the new building in the St. Barbara Hospital can take place as planned.

On May 16th there will be the 11th career fair of the Bauhaus University in Weimar. Students and graduates have the opportunity to talk to potential employers as well as to gather information about job perspectives. There will be companies from various branches like architecture, urban planning, civil engineering, construction management, media, cultural management as well as art and design. Gerber Architects also take part in the career fair and informs about job vacancies in all Gerber offices and talks about the scope of duties and processes of an international architectural office.

Today the groundbreaking for the new client and technology center of Plasmatreat GmbH in Steinhagen takes place. Plasmatreat, is one of the world-leading specialist in surface treatment. In the following months a modern extension for research of new plasma technology and plasma application shall be built on the company premises. A special focus lies on the cladding design of the new construction. The two-storey cross building takes the vertical structure of the existing building a design idea and continues it as a complete circumferential rear-ventilated curtain wall with aluminium pilaster strips. Only in the seminar area and the associated foyer the vertical blinds are interrupted and a mullion-transom facade with floor-depth windows are planned.

After one year of construction works the coach terminal at the east side of the Leipzig main station will be opened in a ceremony today. Nine new platforms inside the terminal and 550 parking places in the higher level as well commercial use like car rental, bike rental and various catering businesses are created. The S&G Development is the builder and the OPG Center Parking GmbH are operators.
